Installing and using Vroum Connector

This is the guide for a shop. One computer per printer group runs the agent; every other computer prints through it.

1. Install the app on the computer next to the printer

Download the installer from the latest release:

PlatformFileWhat happens
Windows 10/11Vroum Connector-<version>-win-x64.exeInstalls for the current user, no admin prompt, and starts.
macOS (Apple silicon)Vroum Connector-<version>-mac-arm64.dmgDrag to Applications, open once.
macOS (Intel)Vroum Connector-<version>-mac-x64.dmgSame.

The app has no window. It sits in the system tray (Windows) or the menu bar (macOS) as a small "V" icon. It starts at login and keeps itself up to date.

The printers must already be installed on that computer: anything that shows in Printers & scanners (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (macOS) is available to Vroum.

2. Connect the computer to the shop

On that same computer, sign in to Vroum and open Settings › Printers.

The This computer card finds the agent automatically. Give the computer a name people will recognise ("Front desk", "Bay 2") and click Connect this computer. Only a manager or the owner can do this.

Within a few seconds the computer appears under Connected computers with a green dot and the list of its printers. Click Print test page next to any printer to make sure paper comes out.

If the card says the agent is paired with another server, the app on that computer was connected to a different Vroum before. Choose Unpair from server in its tray menu and try again.

3. Choose default printers

Under Default printers, pick where each kind of document goes when nobody chooses a printer: estimates, work orders and invoices can each go to a different computer and printer, with a number of copies. Ask every time leaves the choice to the person printing.

4. Print from any computer

On a work order, the printer button opens a menu:

  • Open PDF shows the document in a new tab, as before.
  • Default printer sends it to the default for that document type.
  • Any connected computer and printer can be picked directly. Computers that are off show as offline; a job sent to one waits up to 24 hours and prints when it comes back.

A toast confirms the job was sent, then another confirms it printed or explains why it did not. Settings › Printers › Recent print jobs keeps the last twenty jobs with their status and error.

Removing a computer

In Settings › Printers, click Remove next to the computer. Its token stops working immediately, any default that pointed at one of its printers is cleared, and the app on that computer forgets the pairing on its own.

Notes

  • The pairing step needs a browser that can reach http://127.0.0.1:41780 from an HTTPS page. Chrome, Edge and Firefox do. Safari may block it; pair from Chrome or Firefox, printing afterwards works from any browser.
  • The agent only accepts the localhost requests from the Vroum server it is paired with. Another website cannot list the printers or re-point the agent.
  • One computer can be paired with one shop at a time.
